Linky Love

Link Love

Very exciting stuff! I have been featured at www.linkylove.net. They were incredibly nice, but I had trouble leaving a comment (my mind is filled with so much culture, sometimes things that should be easy are not). They even featured my interview with Mikah. So, I just wanted to thank them. Oh and they are the same people who are behind www.freetabbykittens.com.

Chico and the Man

I am not Catholic and in fact subscribe to my own brand of spirituality. But, BUT, I now have a serious appreciation for Pope Benedict XVI. Did you know he is apparently a cat person? How cool is that? He is known to be incredible kind to the strays in Rome and even has a cat statue at his home in Germany.

But apparently, one of us wrote the Pope's biography. Chico wrote the it based on his and Joseph's friendship. They were originally neighbors before Joseph became Pope.

The book is called Joseph and Chico: The Life of Pope Benedict XVI as Told by a Cat.

So, congrats Chico on being a published author!!!

Stieglitz Needed a Cat

My human went to the High Museum in Atlanta over the weekend for the Georgia O'Keeffe and the Women of the Stieglitz Circle show. And no, she did not bring back a t-shirt this time, not even the catalogue from the show. She is all into that generation of artists. But in hearing her thoughts on it, I cannot blame her for being a little riled up. Apparently through out the show, the curator talked about Stieglitz's modern art ideal for women - that they their art should reflect purity and innocence. Childlike was the way to go. Hmmmpf. What about catlike? Fuzzy images to reflect the high wisdom and transcending nature of the cat? Were they blind? Surely a cat would be more inspirational than a child? I have nothing against children and their art, but really, I think this show missed the who real nature of the Pictorialism time period and the images around it.

Cool Cat Daisy!

It is a beautiful day here at the cove, quiet, too. My human is off on travel again, but why should that stop me from blogging?

This week, I have gotten to know Daisy much better and offer you the same option (though it is hard not to know her from her blog). She is a bit more out going than me. I liken it to the idea if we were humans, she would be a big time fashion model and I would be Silvia Plath. LOL.

By the way, her blog is at daisythecurlycat.blogspot.com.

So here are her answers to my interview questions.

Is there a story behind your name and if so what is it?

There is no real story behind my name, except my Mommie thought of me as a sunny and happy kitty so “Daisy” seemed fitting.

What is your life philosophy?

We never know what tomorrow will bring, so play hard, purr often, and eat lots of snacks.

What is the best trait for a human to have?

Compassion for others. I think it is so important to treat others (creatures and humans) with compassion and respect. I am proud of my Mommie for volunteering at a no-kill cat rescue shelter 12 hours a week for the past two years.

What would you change about your life if you could?

I sure wish my big sister Pixie did not have Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. I’ll bet if she was not so sick, she would not be so crabby.

Which describes you more? Feel free to elaborate:

wet food/dry food
I eat dry food, and a little bit of wet food every day. I had bladder stones surgically removed, so now I must eat special prescription foods.

indoor/outdoor
Indoor! I do get to go Outside on my harness and leash and in my stroller, but NEVER by myself.

lap sitter/or computer keyboard
I like to sleep behind the computer. It’s very warm there.

affectionate/aloof
A little bit of both. I like to be petted, picked up, and sit in laps, but only when I feel like it.

catnip/milk
I LOVE THE CATNIP! I have never tried milk.

fish/pork
Sadly, I have never had either of those foods.

animal shelter/pet shop
I came from a breeder of Devon Rex cats.

Monkey Tail

This form of expression,
subtle and loud,
without words
but a swish
swish
swish.
DON'T TOUCH MY TAIL!
Ignorant human!
My device of communication,
it speaks loud
where no words
linger
creating wonder.
It grasps.
It comments.
It is a being in itself.
I do not have a monkey tail,
so do not tell me that I do.
It is mine,
not yours.
Go find your own.

Pulling the Wool Out

Another day, another dollar, so the humans say. And a dollar I do not really have, but if I did, I would consider grabbing this little homage to the Siamese (it would help if it were a bit more brown, but I am not prejudiced, Seal Points are fine).

Yes, I am have been working my paws out on Etsy again today. And this little six inch felted sculpture is by Rose Thistle Artworks. The other wonderful things is that it is totally gree, made out of sheep and llama wool rovings.

Three Goody Goodies for Earth Day

I would hate for anyone to think that I am not socially conscious. Just because I am an indoor kitty, it does not mean that I am insensitive to the outdoor world. So, happy Earth Day! Are you celebrating, and if so, how?

I thought I would highlight a few cool things out there in the cat community that pertain to Earth Day.

Have you seen the Big Cat Rescue Earth Day T-shirts (maybe they would make a really small one for Daisy)?

How about cool cats celebrate Earth Day stickers from Positive Promotions?

Or maybe even something fun for us to use to amuse our people. This cat tunnel is from All Designer Pet Products and is eco-friendly. It does have cat nip so be prepared for the kick.

There, I have done my share for the good of the collective consciousness. Back to my cat nap.

A Nice Memory

So, it was quite the weekend. It was HER birthday. Sure, flowers, cake, wine, and what she calls her "toys." Where was the ME in all that? Well, she knew better than to give me the cake or the wine and though she let me sniff her new toys, I really have no use for them. The flowers are another story, though. I am quite partial to them.

Then SHE remembered. SHE did. SHE really did.

Many years ago, when I was three, those whom I thought were my people left me at the Human Society. They told lies on my form - for instance, they listed me as a boy and said I sprayed the house whenever the new man of the family was around. As if. I am a girl kitty. I may have my passive-aggressive moments, but I never spray.

After awhile, I was moved to the animal shelter. There was a terrible mention about that place that Mikah refers to as Rainbow Heaven. I so was not ready to go there. Then SHE came in. It took me a while to really notice her, it was just good to be out of the cage.

It wasn't until a few days later, after I was "fixed" (like I was broken?), and coming out of the dizzy stuff, that I really saw HER. It was the middle of the night. I had been sleeping off the dizzy stuff under HER bed. I could not figure out where I was, so I started yelling for help. HER voice was nice, so I crawled out from under the bed and SHE invited me up on top. SHE spoke in soothing tones and did HER best to make me comfortable. SHE did not yell at me for making noise.

So I thought I'd stay.

And all that happened many years ago on one of HER past birthdays. And SHE remembered.

SHE said the flowers were for me (I'd have had my picture made with them, but they made me sneeze).

Cool Cat Mikah!

Mikah introduced herself last week in the comment section of my interview with Livvie. I could so relate to her (I was a shelter kitty, too), that I thought it would be supper cool to interview her. You can visit Mikah's human's blog at www.creaturelover.com. Not only is Mikah super cool, but so is her human mother.

Is there a story behind your name and if so what is it?

Most of our names in the shelter starts with a letter M. My close friends in the shelter are Mikee, Miki and Macky (who's now in rainbow heaven).

What is your life philosophy?

To help mommy take care of the newly rescued kittens by becoming their surrogate mom cat.

What is the best trait for a human to have?

To love animals unconditionally. We have cats in the shelter that are blind, sick and gross looking. We also have shy cats and vicious cats. But nevertheless, mom loves us all. She hugs as all and comforts us when we are scared.

What would you change about your life if you could?

I wish my previous human didn't just leave me on the streets. I was starving for days before mommy came and rescued me. I was soooo sick that I almost died.

Which describes you more? Feel free to elaborate:

Mom says that I am the sweetest cat in the shelter and that I am her favorite (shhhh.... she told me not tell the other cats). I am proud to be the winner of the stretch and yawn category of catster's worlds coolest cat and dog show for 2007.

wet food/dry food
Mommy says we cannot afford to buy commercial cat food, but its ok, I love eating broiled fish and rice.

indoor/outdoor
In our shelter, we have an indoor room and an outdoor garden wherein we can roll and play on the grass.

lap sitter/or computer keyboard
Definitely a lap sitter.

affectionate/aloof
Super duper affectionate.

catnip/milk
Haven't seen or tasted a catnip yet. They don't serve milk in the shelter (No problem though, I'm sure I wont like it).

fish/pork
Fish of course.

animal shelter/pet shop
Animal shelter :)

The Sound of the Human Sniffle

The sound
of a sneeze.
The loud explosion
blown away
on soft bits of paper.
He sleeps
not soundly,
a human sniffle.
How he makes me move.
No peace for the weary.
No lap for the feline.
Another sneeze
and discombobulation
sets in.
How I wish
his breathing were not so loud.
Sensitive ears
hear it all,
the wheezing,
rasping,
over amplified noise.
Why will he not
succumb to my healing purr?
Why instead does he
crumple tissues
and toss them again?
I do not like these
human colds.

Debs Random Art

My human actually went out to do some work today so, I got a little more time on the machine. Today I went looking around for an idea of what to give HER for Mother's Day. I know she is not really my mom, being human and all, but if I had to chose one, it would be HER. So, I though it would be fun to feature an artisan who uses the Siamese for their muse. We could all use a little more culture in our lives. So behold the art work of DebsRandomArt. I found this lovely little necklace on her etsy page. Click here to visit her web site.

My Five Minutes on the Computer

I am at the point where I think I now need my own computer. Using my human's is a little inconvenient. She is getting her Masters and it causes her to be on this machine for long hours. What a pain! Surely, she could allow me a few minutes everyday to visit with my friends - but No. Life is not fair, she says when I complain. Very enlightened. Yeah.

So, here I am. Just me and the newspapers. They are not much fun either. Moan. Moan. Moan

Cool Cat Livvie!

Since doing the entrecard thing and such, I have actually met some really cool cats (among other beasties). So, I thought it would be fun to do "Questions for Cool Cats and Other Creatures." I hope to make this a regular feature, but I am a cat after all...

So, here is my very first cool cat - Livvie from simplycats.blogspot.com.

1. Is there a story behind your name and if so what is it?

My name is Olivia but my mummies call me Livvie.
When my mummies brought me home, their niece and a friend's daughter were both having babies. They liked my name so much that when they had their babies, they were girls, they both called them Olivia. I now have two humans named after me :O)
2. What is your life philosophy?

To love and be loved and to have as much fun and games as you can, while you can. Then, when you get older you can have all those memories. Most important - when you want something from your human make a lot of noise so you get it straight away!

3. What is the best trait for a human to have?

A big heart - and a big lap!

4. What would you change about your life if you could?

If I could change anything it would be not to have been hit by that big shiny metal thing. It messed my life up big time, and made me forget all the tricks I had learned. It took me about a year to recover because it damaged the nerves in my shoulder.

5. Which describes you more? Feel free to elaborate:

wet food/dry food - Wet food and a bit of dry food now and again.

indoor/outdoor - I like both. In the summer I lay out in the garden all day, but never go far. In the winter I hog the fire or curl up with one of my sisters.

lap sitter/computer keyboard - I am definitely a lap sitter and never go near the computer. It's too technical for me. I leave that for Sukie.

affectionate/aloof - Very affectionate. Nothing I like better than fusses and cuddles.

catnip/milk - Neither. I hate milk and don't have any interest in catnip. I will ONLY drink water from a running tap!

fish/pork - I never eat human food, only eat cat food, and then only lovely chunky bits in gravy. I sometimes just lick all the gravy up and leave the bits. Then mummy fills me up with some dry food.

animal shelter/pet shop - Cat breeder. In the UK, us pedigree cats are never found anywhere except private breeders.

That was awesome, Livvie! So, who will be next...

Going Orange

Is anyone else going orange for ASPCA Day today? I guess I could dress up a bit, but I think the die job worked well (no cool aid or animals injured for this picture thanks to the help of Photoshop). Seems like we should really support this day and though my human is staying in and working at the cabin for the day, the least I could do is be orange. It also helps living in Big Orange Country (Go Lady Vols, you rock!). Orange is just a natural state of being here.

Scarey Voki

Get a Voki now!

Well, I decided to become an avatar today or at least a moving animation. I suppose it looks a bit like me, though it was not as tweakable as I would have preferred. but I could not resist putting a haunted background in considering the last two post here have been about ghosties and such.

Do you have a Voki?

Evil Spirits

Now SHE is wearing the t-shirt she brought back for me from Waverly Hills. Okay, to be fair, I am more tempted to sleep on it if she is wearing it.

Yesterday, Daisy commented that she thought Waverly Hills might be scary. But I think I might have been brave had I gone. SHE thinks so.

SHE tends to believe in the superstition that cats protect against evil spirits. And I suppose if one must have a job, protecting HER by just hanging around sounds reasonable. And I have yet to really throw out any rowdy ghosties.

Do your humans ask you to do similar jobs?

My Human Went to Waverly Hills...

...and all SHE brought me back was this t-shirt. I will not say "stupid t-shirt," but really is that the best SHE can do? It is a little large and the material is so thin that it hardly is worth my time to sleep on it.

Not that I am ungrateful for the thought. I know SHE is totally obsessed with the old Waverly Hills Sanatorium, but you know, I like a little adventure, too. Sometimes she even takes me with her, but not this time. Nope. It was just Killer and I, and Oliver outside.

Outside the Window

Being an indoor sort of girl, I do get my jollies by watching the world outside of our cabin windows. Today Killer spent the morning guarding the outhouse. Yes, though he is fond of my litter box, he has his own outhouse. How many cat's do you know who can say this?

However, it was not Killer that brought me too the window today. It was something so completely alien that I must blog about it. It is one of those human things that makes no sense. Even SHE agrees.

I was happily sleeping in a patch of sunlight (it has been a few days since I could do that), dreaming my dreams and ignoring the coffee smells. Then it happened. There was a large sound from beyond the door. Someone was honking their car horn right in front of the cottage. We ignored it. But then it honked again. Turns out that it was someone looking for someone else's house. But whoever heard of honking the horn? Why not just come and knock on the front door and ask? How rude!

Humans!

Call me food obsessed, but it is my proclaimed hobby. I love food. I live for food. I love the smells, the crumbs, and the rare morsels of really good food. But I was just thinking about HER post that SHE did this morning at N*tranced. SHE decided to share HER favorite crab cake recipe (we are both Maryland girls). I can attest to its tastiness (it has a nice bite in it that counteracts any blandness), but I think SHE is really silly. When SHE decided to illustrate the post, SHE thought about using a picture of a blue crab (ah, I remember those days when SHE would come home all sandy and smelling like dead fish). Well, turns out, SHE could not face it. Just the idea of putting a pretty picture of a crab besides the recipe seemed awful to her. SHE believes in not knowing the animal SHE is eating. So, she used the picture I have posted here. Just be a vegetarian, for goodness sake (wait...don't...that would suck for my eating hobby).

The Tater-tot

Floating,
Hovering,
fork impaled
and gone.
How it moves.
How it provokes
my senses.
Salty smells,
Golden-colored
memories of the past
nights in dimly
not thought about kitchens.
The taste.
The sensation.
Warm that will travel
down and around me.
And I know this desire
is never ending.
I could just reach up and grab it.
A seconds’ timing.
Yet that fork,
The impaler
Looks ominous.
So I try for a moment
And relent.
Knowing that tater-tot
was almost within my reach.

Clocked

I am very aware that time is moving forward. I hate it. I am 15 years old. Life is fleeting. I have even noticed my human becoming aware of this. It is as though she is trying to spend as much time as she can with me. And though I think death is not the end, it is inevitable. It will be a huge readjustment.

But...I am still here. I am still now.

So I thought it would be fun to mark time a little bit differently.

Puzzle

I Want To Be A Dog

Yep. That's right. Today I want to be a dog, but not just any dog. I want to be huge, really big and fearsome. I want to take up a lot of room and slobber. I want to have to be taken out for walks. I want to dominate.

April Fools!
