My grandhuman occasionally sends clippings from the newspaper. She has a habit of doing this for people she likes, and apparently I am no exception. Recently, she sent me the weekly column called Animal Doctor by Michael Fox that is featured in the Sunday paper. What is she trying to say with this?
Someone wrote in to him asking for a way that two cats could cohabitate in peace. Is this a hint about my non-relationship with the other cat here? Bah!
Anyway, what is going on here at the cabin has little to do with this clipping. First of all the question refers to two cats that have gotten along for years together and all of a sudden started fighting. Just a jealousy spat if you ask me. And Killer and I have never gotten along, nor are there any plans in the future to do so.
What Dr. Fox suggest to the person asking the question is to try something called "Feliway." It is a "peacemaking" cat pheromone. Hmm. Wonder how that is made, processed and bottled? This is to by sprayed two three times daily for a week where cats socialize. Ha, I'd like to see my human try it. We do not socialize.
But, my human seems to not be on my communicative wavelength. I think she might have something in mind. Good grief.

Et Tu Entrecard?
Since I am attempting to be good and keep this a little more up-to-date, I believe in rewards - rewards as in having people actually read my writing. So, SHE suggested I put an entrecard widget on my blog and that seems to be working out nicely.
What is really amazing is the number of people who want to advertise when the credits are low, who do not even bother to look at the blog or if they do, they do not drop a card. Is it that the price is so low, it does not matter what the blog looks like? What if I were some sort of offensive blogger and hosted their card? Would that not reflect badly on them? Or does it not matter?
So, though I plan to be fairly lenient about who advertises on this blog (unless it is derogatory to cats or I find their site boring), the one thing that I think is in order is that those wanting to put their ad on my blog could at least have the decency to visit my blog and drop a card. I realize they may not read a word of what I write, but it seems like common courtesy.
If you wanted to advertise and I have rejected your ad due to "Temporary Problem: Feel Free to Reapply" it means simply that all I ask is that you actually visit the site. Isn't that what entrecard is all about? Or have I missed something?

Helvetica

SHE went to see the movie Helvetica last night (which by the way is not a font option on this blog). What a strange idea for a movie! It is literally about the invention of the type face, why it came into being, how it was designed, and how designers seem to either embrace it or hate it. Such passion for a san serif font.
So, that got me thinking about font aesthetics, granted I am no graphic designer, but I am a Siamese so therefore my opinion is valid. Helvetica is a clean and safe type face. It is everywhere. If you are wondering what an example of this would look like, see the Target logo. That is a great example of the Swiss styling (Helvetic means type of the Swiss -or something close to that). It's original working name was Neue Haas Grotesk, but Stemple, who owns the font thought that name would not go over well in America. Hence Helvetica.
To me, it is the ideal of being safe - non-offensive (unless on is totally, purposefully against it). And sometimes I wonder if safe is good. I do not believe in being offensive on purpose, that just makes one look like an idiot. But is safe boring? I do not know.

How I Wake Up My People
Yes, the sentiments in this video are exactly how I feel. Granted a large text book is more my style. LOL. And I do not wait exclusively for morning, I prefer to use these methods through out the night. Why shouldn't she wake up to serve my needs? It gets cold and I sometimes prefer to be under the blankets as well, thank you very much.

When She Leaves
The laundry detergent smells,
the clothes on the bed,
the big, black, box on wheels
is the beginning of anxiety
the fruition of being left-behind
again and again
like lives lived
and forgotten.
She leaves
with promises on her tongue
- words, many words
lingering after the shut door
and turn of a lock
merge into echoes of silence.
The stomach churns.
The bitterness bites
worse than the threat
of hidden coyotes
in the picture hills
framed by the window.
I close my eyes,
closed to the days
in between
her words of promise,
of return.

The Game
Here is the latest thing that is distracting my human. And d--m video game. She thinks it is cute because it is called Bear & Cat. Why they even bother with cat, I do not know. It looks like a bear in the bubble. And what's the language anyway? I can't read it; I sure as heck know that my human can't read it. But anyway...you might as well give it a shot. She does.

A Cyber Kitty
It has been quite a while since I last wrote. My life has been a bit stressful, so I have spent more time just sleeping it away. My human decided to help a neighbor cat and it has meant less attention for me.
Anywho...
I did get online and do some perusing...and found this...a cyber kitty. You can pet her and she purrs and meows, even follows the mouse.
